1. Heinrich Böll Foundation Bachelor, Master and PhD Scholarships for International Students, Germany
Fields of study:
Selected priority fields of study. In addition to their current focus on Humanities and Social Science as well as Fine Arts and Cultural Studies, the Foundation, in the future, be extending their scholarship to as yet under-represented specialist subjects such as Economics, Law, Engineering, Media Science and Natural Science.
 
Eligibility:
The following general requirements apply to foreign applicants (except EU citizens) who wish to study in Germany:
  1. You must be enrolled at a state-recognized university or college (e.g. Fachhochschule) in Germany at the time the scholarship payments begin.
  2. You should provide proof that you have already graduated with an initial professional qualification. This programme mainly supports students aiming for a Masters degree.
  3. You need a good knowledge of German, and we kindly ask you to provide proof of your proficiency. Please note that the selection workshop (interviews, group discussions) will normally be in German. Exceptions (interview in English) are, however, possible.
  4. Unfortunately, the current guidelines specify that we can not support foreign scholarship holders for stays abroad in third countries for more than four weeks.

The following requirements apply to all German and non-German students wishing to pursue a Masters degree or postgraduate studies:
  1. You should definitely apply for a scholarship before the start of your studies, in order to ensure long-term support and cooperation.
  2. The Heinrich Böll Foundation cannot award you a scholarship, if you are studying for a one-year Masters degree and were not previously supported by the foundation.
  3. Tuition fees for fee-paying courses in Germany cannot be financed by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
The following requirements apply to PhD-students from outside the EU:
Applicants must hold a Master`s degree or equivalent and must have been accepted as adoctoral student by a German institution of higher education.

4. Post Graduate Program, Political Science Invienna
The Department of Political Science, Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna, offers a three-year postgraduate program aiming to explore the logic of political contestation in this setting of increasingly interwoven levels of governance.

The students are required to develop and carry out a PhD project on an issue related to the theme of the program. In addition to proposals addressing the multi-level nature of political contestation in
contemporary Europe. The comparative projects focusing on politics at either the EU or the domestic levels alone are also accepted.

Eligibility
* applicants with Master’s degree in Political Science or other disciplines relevant to the program (degrees should be received by October 2010);
* excellent command of the English language is essential since the working language of the program is English.

Scholarship
* Successful candidates will have access to fully-equipped office space at the institute and enjoy the full range of IHS support services;
* 8 fellowships of 850 Euro per month (tax-free), but participation in the program is also possible for a limited number of additional students with alternative sources of funding.

  • Participants of the program will receive their research training under the supervision of an IERC research scientist, and their coursework lectures given by faculty of GIST. During the final week of the program, each participant shall present the results of their research.

2. University Scholar Leadership Symposium, Malaysia
The University Scholars Leadership Symposium 2010 is an International Humanitarian Training Program for Outstanding College Students to learn, explore, and address global concern of the plight of those suffering in extreme poverty. This Leadership Symposium is initiated by Humanitarian Affairs, United Kingdom. Humanitarian Affairs United Kingdom is a member of The World Association of Non Government Organization and World Alliance for Citizenship Participation. World Youth Foundation an international NGO is the co – host of the Symposium. It has Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

3. Molecular Life Sciences PhD Recruitment
The Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS) is organising an international PhD recruitment event to attract top students to study in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. 1. Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Scholarships at Asia University
The new prospectus for fall 2010, including admission and scholarship application, is available now for download at http://ciae.asia.edu.tw/appapp/index4.php. The informationhas been announced as well at http://ciae.asia.edu.tw. Please note that application should be submitted by the May 31st, 2010. The required materials for admission application are as follows:
1. Two application forms attached with a 2-inch recent photo.
2. One copy of the highest-level diploma (enclosed with a Chinese or an English translation of the diploma).
3. One official transcript (in English or Chinese) from the school you have attended.
4. Two letters of recommendation.
5. One study plan.
6. One health certificate issued within the last six months (attached HIV certification).
7. One copy of passport.
8. An original bank statement issued within six months clearly stating a balance.

Asia University offers degree programs conducted in either English or Chinese. “Motivational Responses To Physical Activity And Dietary Policies: Translating Success From The Smoking Context”University of Bath – Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Applications are invited for a full-time studentship at the University of Bath (starting October 2010).

Requirements:
* A good first degree (upper second or first – or equivalent) in a Health or Social Science related discipline.
* A strong understanding of theories of behaviour change.

“Applying terrestrial LIDAR to measure vegetation characteristics and improve remote sensing monitoring
applications”

The Centre for Geo Information at Wageningen University (NL) is offering a PhD position for combining terrestrial LIDAR measurements and new remote sensing algorithms for monitoring of vegetation structure and biophysical variables; with focus on forest areas. The PhD student is expected to perform research on the analysis of hemispherical, multiple return terrestrial LIDAR measurements and integrate such data with improved and innovative land remote sensing approaches for calibration and validation purposes. The methodological work will entail field campaigns (also international), the analysis of three dimensional LIDAR signals to derive vegetation parameters, and the application of quantitative digital image analysis techniques. The research is part of international research collaborations.

We ask MSc degree and experiences in relevant fields such as Remote Sensing, Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Geography. Knowledge in the areas of expected methodological work and programming skills in IDL or MATLAB is preferable. The candidate should have an interest to work in a research team including international partners.

We offer a full-time PhD-position for 4 years. There will be a probationary period of 18 months.
The gross salary is € 2.042,- based on a full-time position in the first year and increases to € 2.612,- in the final year.

Location: The candidate is expected to pursue a PhD study at Wageningen University's Center of Geoinformation, Netherlands

2. Mitsui-Bussan Undergraduate Scholarship Program 2010
This program aims to encourage Indonesian students who wish to study at universities in Japan and obtain a bachelor`s degree thereby.

Qualifications:

Tips studi ke Jepang tanpa biaya

Akhir-akhir ini banyak students dan juga alumni yang tertarik untuk melanjutkan studi ke Negeri Sakura. Berbagai alasan yang melatarbelakangi keinginan tersebut diantaranya: Jepang merupakan negara yang sudah maju dari sisi sains dan teknologi, Jepang memberikan jaminan studi dengan scholarshipnya (monbukagakusho scholarship dll), Perguruan tinggi di jepang mempunyai banyak bidang keilmuan dan mayoritas high quality dibandingkan dengan kampus di luar jepang, Kultur Jepang yang hampir sama dengan Indonesia karena adat timurnya, dan lain-lain.
Namun terkadang keinginan tersebut memudar dikarenakan ketidaktahuan informasi jalan menuju ke Jepang. Sebagaimana dulu penulis juga sempat pesimis dikarenakan susahnya menembus beasiswa. Berikut ini beberapa tips yang menjadi pengalaman penulis dan juga sebagian teman-teman yang berhasil mendapatkan berbagai macam beasiswa melanjutkan studi postgraduate ke Jepang.
1. Tingkatkatkan IPK dan TOEFL
Ya, IPK (Indeks prestasi Komulatif) dan Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) adalah syarat awal yang paling urgen untuk mendapatkan beasiswa studi ke Jepang. Diusahakan agar IPK minimal 3.51 dan TOEFL score minimal 550. Walaupun terkadang syarat minimal tersebut juga harus berkompetisi dengan alumni universitas bergengsi di Indonesia. Ada kasus-kasus khusus yang syarat tersebut bisa tembus walaupun di bawah standar di atas. Misalnya dikarenakan adanya kedekatan personal dengan sensei (calon professor pembimbing) atau karena berasal dari kampus yang sudah mengadakan kerja sama dengan universitas Jepang. Namun, akhir-akhir ini universitas di Jepang tetap mensyaratkan IPK dan TOEFL sebagai standar mutlak untuk studi ke Jepang. Oleh karena itu, mulai meningkatkan IPK dan TOEFL adalah jalan awal untuk mendapatkan beasiswa.
2. Menfokuskan bidang penelitian untuk proposal riset
Banyak students yang menginginkan untuk studi lanjut. Namun ketika ditanya mengenai bidang risetnya, mereka belum bisa memberikan jawaban secara spesifik tentang topik risetnya. Misalnya, ketika ditanya tentang bidang risetnya, mereka menjawab Fisika spektroskopi. Padahal di dalam spektroskopi sendiri banyak cabang keilmuanya, diantaranya spektroskopi molekuler dan spektroskopi atomik. Di dalamnya masih ada cabang lagi diantaranya, X-ray spektroskopi, Raman spectroscopy, Plasma spektroskopi, Laser spektroskopi, absorption spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy dll. Oleh karena itu, sedetail mungkin menfokuskan bidang keilmuan adalah bagian penting dari persiapan studi lanjut.
3. Adanya korelasi antara bidang keilmuan di S1 dengan proposal riset untuk S2.
Korelasi keilmuan ini adalah sangat penting untuk bisa mendapatkan grant studi lanjut ke Jepang. Akan mengalami kesulitan kalau bidang keilmuan tidak sealur. Misalnya bidang Biologi seharusnya mencoba mencari bidang keilmuan lanjutan ke biologi sains, biologi molecular, atau biologi biochemistry. Kalau memaksakan diri ke bidang electrical engineering atau civil engineering, probabilitas untuk mendapatkan beasiswa akan sangat kecil. Namun perlu penulis sampaikan bahwa ada beberapa keilmuan yang mempunyai alur sama walaupun beda program studi. Misalnya, bidang Fisika Atom bisa mengajukan proposal riset untuk S2 ke bidang Teknik Nuklir, Ilmu spektroskopi, Nuklir kedokteran, dll. Oleh karena itu, mulai di kaji korelasi bidang keilmuan kita sekarang dengan bidang yang akan ditekuni selama posgraduate di Jepang.
4. Membangun komunikasi dengan institusi terkait dengan bidang keilmuan kita.
Kita sudah mengetahui bahwa mayoritas untuk fresh graduate biasanya belum mempunya institusi setelah baru saja selesai studi S1. Oleh karena itu, selama di S1 diharapkan bisa menjalin komunikasi dengan institusi-institusi yang sesuai dengan bidang kita. Khusus untuk kampus-kampus yang belum menjalin kerjasama dengan univeritas di Jepang contohnya Fisika Undip dengan Universitas Fukui Jepang, maka sudah sepatutnya students mencoba aktif untuk menjalin komunikasi dengan institusi di luar kampus. Hal ini akan kita gunakan untuk memenuhi persyaratan untuk mengisi formulir registrasi bahwa pasca studi dari Jepang, kita akan kembali ke Indonesia dan membangun Indonesia melalui institusi tersebut. Walaupun hanya secara formal, institusi tersebut sangat kita butuhkan. Untuk kampus-kampus yang sudah membangun kerjasama, biasanya applicants menggunakan atas nama institusinya (seperti UI dan ITB) bahwa nantinya mereka akan kembali ke Indonesia untuk menjadi lecturers walaupun bukan PNS. Untuk applicants yang sudah mempunyai institusi, maka otomotasi persiapan di point ini gugur.
5. Mulai mencari ide riset untuk proposal postgraduate
Mencari ide riset yang sesuai dengan bidang keilmuan sedini mungkin. Pencarian ide riset bisa dilakukan dengan menanyakan topik riset dosen kita yang pernah studi ke jepang. Pencarian juga bisa dilakukan melalui internet (searching by google bagian scholars) dengan keywords topik riset kita. By searching, kita akan menemukan journal papers yang biasanya terdiri atas authors dan hasil riset. Kalau tidak bisa mendownload dikarenakan harus membayar, kita mencoba meminta bantuan senior yang sedang belajar di luar negeri untuk mendownload dikarenakan biasanya universitas internasional sudah langganan journal. Namun, sebisa mungkin cari yang gratisan dulu. Selain melalui internet, kita bisa mencari ide-ide riset dengan menghadiri seminar-seminar atau konferensi yang keynote speaker nya berasal dari Jepang.
6. Mencari professor pembimbing untuk postgraduate
Sebagaimana point no. 5, mencari professor bisa dilakukan dengan memohon dosen pembimbing kita yang pernah belajar ke Jepang untuk memberikan kontak person dengan professor di jepang. Cara ini adalah paling efektif karena professor biasanya sudah mengenal dosen pembimbing kita dengan baik. Sehingga kita diuntungkan melalui human relations dengan dosen pembimbing kita. Selain itu, pencarian bisa menghubungi professor yang ada di author journal yang telah kita temukan melalui internet. Kontak professor bisa dilakukan dengan email. Alternatif lain adalah bertemu langsung dengan professor saat acara seminar, konferensi, workshop, kunjungan kerja, pameran pendidikan, joint riset di Indonesia dll.
7. Membangun komunikasi dengan calon professor pembimbing
Membangun komunikasi dengan professor adalah sangat penting setelah kita mendapatkan professor melalui point 6. Membangun komunikasi bisa dilakukan dengan korespondesi melalui email dengan menanyakan hasil-hasil riset dari professor dan masalah-masalah yang ditemuai saat membaca hasil riset professor. Komunikasi ini sangat penting karena akan meyakinkan professor bahwa kita benar-benar serius untuk studi postgraduate di laboratoriumnya.
8. Pencarian beasiswa
Ini adalah point yang paling penting karena tanpa beasiswa kita cukup mengalami kepayahan selama studi di Jepang. Perlu diketahui bahwa untuk registrasi di universitas di Jepang kita membutuhkan biaya sekitar Rp 30 juta. Biaya per semester sekitar Rp 25 juta. Biaya hidup tinggal di Jepang sekitar Rp 8 juta/bulan. Oleh karena itu beasiswa sangat penting untuk kelancaran studi kita. Beberapa beasiswa yang bisa kita dapatkan di antaranya, beasiswa monbukagakusho (beasiswa resmi Departemen Pendidikan Jepang), beasiswa AYF (Asian Youth Fellowship), beasiswa Panasonic, beasiswa Dikti Indonesia (Pendidikan Tinggi Indonesia), beasiswa ADB-JSP (Asian development Bank-Japan Scholarship program), Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, Hitachi sholarship, beasiswa pemerintah propinsi jepang, beasiswa laboratorium di universitas di jepang, dll. Pencarian beasiswa bisa dilakukan di internet dengan memasukkan keywords beasiswa di atas ke google search. Khusus untuk beasiswa monbukagakusho ada 2 metode yaitu melalui kedutaan dan melalui universitas di universitas jepang. Untuk lebih detailnya silahkan dirujuk di postingan sebelumnya tentang beasiswa. Beasiswa pemerintah propinsi jepang dan beasiswa laboratorium bisa didapatkan melalui rekomendasi dari professor yang akan kita jadikan pembimbing. Oleh karena itu, silahkan untuk secara intens mengontak professor dengan meyakinkan sehingga professor benar-benar tertarik dengan kita.
9. Kerja part time (arubaito)
Alternatif untuk bisa studi di jepang adalah dengan kerja part time. Kerja part time bisa menghasilkan Rp 5-8 juta yen setiap bulan. Namun kerja part time ini cukup berat karena biasanya untuk mahasiswa S2 dan mahasiswa S3 harus benar-benar fokus di laboratorium dari pagi sampai malam. Tentu hal ini bisa didiskusikan dengan professor nantinya. Untuk bisa datang ke Jepang tanpa beasiswa, calon mahasiswa harus mempunyai tabungan minimal 50 juta untuk perjalanan, registrasi dan biaya hidup sementara. Karena tanpa tabungan, kita akan mengalami kesulitan dalam pembuatan visa studi ke jepang. Kecuali jika professornya sudah menjamin finansial bulanan kita untuk bisa studi di labnya, maka terkadang kita hanya menyediakan uang untuk perjalanan dan registrasi.
10. Berdoa kepada Allah dengan sungguh-sungguh
Ikhtiar maksimal kita sebaiknya dibarengi dengan doa yang sungguh-sungguh kepada Allah. Karena semua keputusan ada di Allah. Kewajiban kita adalah berikhtiar, berdoa, dan tawakal. "Dan apabila hamba-hambaku menanyakan kepadamu tentang Aku, sesungguhnya Aku dekat. Aku memperkenankan permohonan ( Doa ) seseorang bila ia memohon kepada-Ku. Karena itu hendaklah ia mentaati segala perintahku dan beriman kepada-Ku semoga ia selalu dalam kebenaran".(Al-baqarah: 186)
